Staring at the Sun is a documentary and mindful photography project that focuses on exploring the passing of time and the gradual acceptance of change. Though I started experimenting with this style of shooting in Spring of 2026, the project really began much more recently, during a time of significant change in both my professional and my personal life. ‘Staring at the Sun’ represents the difficulty I’ve had in learning the process of staying grounded and present in the day-to-day during challenging times. Shot entirely in black and white, the work stylistically aims to capture the juxtaposition between acceptance and resistance, showing the difficulty of maintaining a positive outlook despite internal struggles and external pressures. It explores mental health, healing, learning and growth. By capturing unscripted candid moments taken across my day-to-day life, ‘Staring at the Sun’ aims to showcase my growing ability to look for the light in times of darkness.

I’m not currently sure of the end point of this work, where it will go and how it will be outputted. I see it as an ongoing creative and personal journey.
